Campus Life

A sense of community is integral to the spirit of campus life when all residents live and work together. All program participants live on campus for the duration of the session. No single, private rooms, or private baths are available. We are unable to accommodate anyone who is not enrolled in a course. All rooms are heated and simply furnished with twin beds and a desk. No camping or commuting is permitted.

Dorm Room

Dormitory Housing is included in course fees and consists of a double-occupancy room with two twin sized beds (bedding provided), desks, storage, and two separate central restrooms for men and women. The dormitory is located less than a five-minute walk uphill.

Cottage Room

Cottage Housing is an optional upgrade. Each cottage consists of two double-occupancy rooms with twin sized beds (bedding provided), desks, and storage. The rooms are separated by a bathroom which is shared by the four residents. With more space, greater privacy, and closer proximity to studios, cottage rooms carry an additional fee. Requests may exceed availability, and placement is not guaranteed. When applying, check either “Dormitory” or “Cottage” on the application. If you do not designate a choice, we will assign you to the dormitory. Requests for cottage rooms may exceed availability, and we cannot guarantee placement.
All session participants dine together. Summer Program course fees include three meals a day during the week [self-serve continental breakfast, lunch and dinner], and two meals a day on weekends [brunch and dinner]. Certain dietary restrictions can be accommodated with prior notice.
After you have accepted an offer to participate in a course and paid the US $500 deposit, you will receive an orientation packet by e-mail that will help you prepare for campus life, what to bring, and how to travel to and from Pilchuck. You will also receive a letter from your instructor with information pertinent to your course. We work with each instructor to determine the amount of basic supplies to have on hand for each course; however, you should be prepared to purchase additional materials if needed. Color will not be provided for hot glass courses, but it is available for purchase in our school store. Sundries, tools and a variety of supplies are available at the school store on campus. You are welcome to bring your own tools.
Drugs & Alcohol: Alcohol and drug intoxication will not be tolerated on the Pilchuck Campus. Pilchuck is committed to maintaining a safe and healthful environment and abides by Washington State laws. Pilchuck serves no alcohol, and tolerates no consumption by minors--persons less than 21 years of age. Illegal drugs are not allowed on campus and anyone bringing them will be immediately dismissed from campus.

Personal Property: Pilchuck cannot be responsible for the security of property belonging to students, instructors, artists in residence, or staff.

Pets: Pilchuck summer session participants may not bring pets to, or keep pets on, campus. Pets are also not allowed to be confined to vehicles in the parking lot or in cabins or elsewhere. For the comfort of our participants and staff, service animals and pets brought by visitors must be on a leash at all times.

Unacceptable Behavior: Pilchuck reserves the right to dismiss and evict anyone whose behavior is considered disruptive, dangerous, or unacceptable in our residential community. If asked to leave campus for any of these reasons, participants will not be eligible for a refund.
Pilchuck makes every effort to accommodate individuals with special needs. However, the Pilchuck campus is located in the Cascade Range foothills, where the terrain is hilly and uneven. The walk from housing to the studios and dining facilities is along steep, unpaved paths. Building and campus accessibility for individuals with disabilities is a priority, and Pilchuck is working to improve conditions. Students with special needs, please contact the registrar at before submitting an application.
