2010 Summer Program Application

 

 

 
Student, Scholarship, and TA/AA Application Instructions

You must be at least eighteen years of age by the time your session would begin. Course placement for students is determined by lottery. Scholarship recipients will be assigned first. Remaining places will be filled according to lottery numbers.


Priority Placement Applications are Due February 12, 2010

After the due date, Pilchuck will continue to accept applications until classes fill. However, scholarship applications must be received by the due date.

Summer Program Application 2010 must be completely filled in with all required information. Please send by mail, or email as an attachment, or fax it along with a US $45 application fee. If you are applying for multiple summer courses, scholarships, and TA/AA positions, you need only submit one application form.

Statement of Interest and Experience: REQUIRED OF ALL APPLICANTS

In order to aid you with choosing an appropriate course and to ensure the ultimate learning experience for all at Pilchuck, please write a concise, one page typed, double-spaced description of previous art and glass experience, current skill levels, and describe your interest in each class or instructor with whom you hope to work.


Scholarship and TA/AA Application Instructions

Additional materials are needed for Scholarship and TA/AA applications. Please use the checklist on the application form to help you remember the following:

A. Send one (1) e-mail only, with multiple attachments. Attachments should include:
  • Five (5) individual digital image files of your artwork.
  • A numbered list of these images.
  • A statement of interest and experience.
  • For scholarship students, a statement of financial need.
  • For TA or AA applicants, a resume.
  • The subject line for this email should read: "Scholarship - Your Name" or "TA/AA - Your Name".
  • If you are applying for both a scholarship and TA/AA position, please send a separate email for each position.
  • Send your e-mail to registrar@pilchuck.com. The registrar will send you confirmation that all materials have been received. If you do not receive a confirmation email or have other questions, please call Registrar at 360-445-3111 ext. 29, or email registrar@pilchuck.com.
VERY IMPORTANT: Please send all of these materials in one (1) email only and title the email according to the instructions above.

B.Important details to follow for attachments to the one email:
  • The five (5) digital images of artwork should be .jpg files, formatted for PC at 72 dpi, and no larger than 1000 x 1000 pixels. Do not place multiple images in one digital image file as they will not present well when projected for viewing.
  • Title each digital image .jpg file "Your Name-Image1.jpg" and "Your Name-Image2.jpg" and so on.
  • The list of five artworks should be numbered and should correspond to your digital images. Please include titles of artworks, materials, size, and date made. One sentence of description may also be included for each artwork.
  • Your name should be included at the top of the list of artworks.
  • The list of artworks should be created as a Word or WordPad document file. Title the file "Your Name- List.doc".
  • The Statement of Interest & Experience should be no more than one page, typed double-space, and created as a Word or WordPad document file in which you 1) Describe your art and glass experience, and 2) Describe what interests you about each course or session you would like to take and each artist or instructor with whom you hope work. Title the file "Your Name-Statement of Interest & Experience.doc".
  • Scholarship applicants must also send a Statement of Financial Need, as a Word or WordPad file attachment. Title the document ?Your Name-Statement of Need.doc? and briefly describe the circumstances creating your financial need. If you do need financial assistance, please say so.
  • TA/AA applicants must also send a Resume, as a Word or WordPad file attachment and title the document "Your Name-Resume.doc". TA/AA applicants DO NOT need to send a Statement of Financial Need.

Explanation of Experience Levels

To determine your eligibility for a particular class, please observe the required experience level for each course as noted in the catalog. A general outline follows:
  • Introductory - No previous glass or art experience is necessary.
  • Intermediate - Requires a minimum of one year of educational or work experience.
  • Intermediate?Advanced - Requires a minimum of two to three years of educational or work experience.
  • Advanced - Requires a minimum of three to four years of educational or work experience
  • Experience Varied- Requires some familiarity with the materials or strong background in artistic processes. Students of varying skill levels may be working together.

College Credit

Undergraduate college credit for work completed at Pilchuck may be obtained through the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington. Arrangements to receive credit must be made prior to beginning your course at Pilchuck as Cornish College of the Arts will not award credit retroactively. For further information, call the Registrar for Cornish College of the Arts at 206.323.1400. If you're enrolled at another school, we encourage you to contact your department head and inquire about receiving credit.


International Participants

International participants should be aware that Pilchuck is not a formal school or an accredited institution. It is an informal fine arts center where artists come for personal or professional development; therefore, travel to the United States as a visitor may be permitted. Citizens of countries that participate in the Visa Waiver Program may not require a tourist visa for travel to Pilchuck. When sending your application by mail, you must provide your return address on the envelope. The U.S. Postal Service may destroy international mail without a return address. Wire transfer information is available from the registrar. If you would like advice or help from a former Pilchuck student who lives in your country and speaks your language, contact the registrar and ask to be put in touch with a "Pilchuck ambassador." We can also provide you with a letter that may make entry into the United States easier and help facilitate visa requests at an embassy.
