Katherine Cardinal Appointed as Pilchuck Glass School’s New Development Director

Seattle , WA – April 12, 2005 – Pilchuck Glass School is pleased to announce the selection of Katherine Cardinal as the school’s new development director. Chosen following a national search, Ms. Cardinal comes to Pilchuck from the Pacific Northwest Ballet where she served as Associate Director of Development, leading a staff of four in achieving the ballet’s $2.7 million fundraising goal from individuals. Prior to that, she served as the ballet’s annual fund manager.

Her professional development background includes eight years in arts fundraising with an emphasis on annual giving and major gifts solicitation. She came to the Pacific Northwest Ballet following a successful tenure with the San Francisco Symphony where she worked as part of their major gifts team and launched a new fundraising campaign, the Friends of the Chorus project, to support the world-famous symphony chorus.

Possessing a master’s of business administration from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree in art history from highly respected Middlebury College, the combination of Ms. Cardinal’s educational and professional experiences “offer Pilchuck and the extensive artist community it serves tremendous leadership to generate the support the school needs,” observed Pilchuck Executive Director Patricia Watkinson. “Katherine’s commitment to the arts and her knowledge of regional philanthropies will be boons to Pilchuck’s efforts.”

Ms. Cardinal succeeds Paulette Bufano as the school’s development director following Ms. Bufano’s retirement in November 2004. Ms. Cardinal will lead a staff of five and provide direction for the school’s major giving, annual giving, special events, and planned giving programs. She joined the school’s staff on April 11, 2005.
