This handblown glass
float recalls the Japanese fishing floats that frequently
washed ashore on the Pacific Northwest coast in the
50's and 60's. Radiating luminous color, thousands of
these floats are featured in a large project on the
Oregon coast. Duncan places the floats on beaches throughout
the area to be discovered and treasured by a new generation
of beachcombers. Begun as a way to mark the new millennium,
the project has evolved into an annual event, The Festival
of Glass Floats, which helps rejuvenate coastal communities.
Duncan’s epic float project has been featured
in Oregon Coast, Glass Art, and Sunset magazines. He
is currently working toward expanding the project into
Washington and Hawaii.
