John Buck's rubbings
are studies for full-color prints. They are lively drawing
exercises that capture the essence of the carved woodblock
surface and stand on their own as unique works of art.
Buck is a sculptor and printmaker whose figurative imagery
embraces such issues as family and environment through
a strong network of metaphors and symbols. He received
a B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute and School
of Design and an M.F.A. from the University of California,
Davis, and attended the Skowhegan School of Sculpture
and Painting in Maine. Since 1974, he has exhibited
his work extensively in U.S. museums, among them the
Contemporary Art Center in Hawaii, Lewis and Clark College
in Oregon, Yellowstone Art Center in Montana, and the
Museum of Modern Art in New York.
