This piece was inspired by the elements of nature as an abstract personal expression. Kathy McClelland Cowan's artworks are included in the collection of the Hawaii State Art Museum, and she has completed a public art commission for the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, Art in Public Places Program. Cowan attended Pilchuck as a scholarship student and teaching assistant and was nominated twice for the Saxe Award, which recognizes outstanding teaching assistants. She has an A.A. in commercial art and printing from Colorado Mountain College. Cowan currently teaches sculpture and glass at Kula High and Intermediate Schools and offers private instruction in her studio on Kauai.
