Dutch artist Patula
Berm creates dramatic sculptures in glass, drawing inspiration
from her background in fashion design and theater. She
uses fusing, slumping, glassblowing, and casting to
create glass garments that suggest a second skin surrounding
the female form. Her dresses typically combine glass
with other materials, such as strands of hair, cutlery,
marbles, coins, and mussel shells. Trained at the Fashion
Academy Vogue Amsterdam and the Utrecht School of the
Arts, both in the Netherlands, Berm initially pursued
a theater career. She created her first glass dress
in 1993 and has since worked in glass at Van Tetterode
Glasobjekten Amsterdam. Her work is featured in galleries,
public spaces, and museums throughout Europe.
